Support Scull Circles

How many of you have swimmers or are a swimmer that does circles in your support scull?

Support scull circles can be a nightmare, but I am here today to make you think about those dreaded circles differently and perhaps you will learn to love circles.

I can hear some of you now saying “NO WAY”, “CIRCLES ARE BAD”!

You are correct that circles can be bad.

The photo to the left shows an improper circle. The circle is going from parallel with the water to scull towards the head. This is the typical scooping type scull you see.

The photo on the right shows a correct circle. The swimmer  grabs up to the surface then would scull parallel to the water on the in scull. This is an advanced technique and it can lead to lots of travelling backwards. The key is to grab up to the surface on the out scull and pull yourself up to the surface on the in scull.

Check out this video of two swimmers performing the different circles.

I’d love to know what you think about the “circles”.
